ReSTOR IOLs Frequently Asked Questions

If you are suffering from presbyopia or cataracts and would like to improve your ability to see objects clearly, please contact Dr. Carter to schedule a free initial vision correction consultation.  During your initial consultation, our team of vision care specialists will review your medical history and the health of your eyes to determine if you are a good candidate for ReSTOR IOLs or any other advanced IOL technology.

If ReSTOR IOLs are a good option to treat your presbyopia or to replace your natural lens during cataract surgery, we will help you schedule an appointment for the procedure to be performed.  The ReSTOR IOL procedure is very simple, and can be performed without general anesthesia.

ReSTOR

During the procedure, your eyes will be numbed with eye drops so that you don’t feel any discomfort.  Then, a tiny incision is made in the side of the cornea.  Through this incision, the eyes natural, crystalline lens is removed.  Once the natural lens is removed, the ReSTOR IOL is placed in the eye.

ReSTOR IOLs use apodization, refraction, and diffraction technologies to provide presbyopic people with improved far, intermediate, and near vision.  If you choose to have ReSTOR IOLs implanted, you can benefit from greater independence from glasses and contacts, and you can enjoy nearly all activities without needing to squint and strain to see objects clearly.

ReSTOR IOLs are able to provide clear vision at multiple distances by using the light that enters your eye to focus objects.  With the unique design of ReSTOR IOLs, light entering the eye through the pupil is focused onto the retina, providing clear vision.

When Will I Be Able To Return To Normal Activities After crystalens® Refractive Implantation?

What Will The crystalens® Procedure Cost? Will Insurance Cover Any Of It?

Because the Crystalens® is state-of-the-art technology it is more expensive than traditional single focus IOLs. Fortunately, Carter Eye Center offers affordable financing including financing options with no interest. Please e-mail or call us for more information.

Insurance coverage varies greatly from policy to policy. Generally speaking, private insurance may cover the cataract and lens implant surgical procedure and anesthesia; and may also allow a certain additional amount for the artificial lens implant. The insured is then required to pay a deductible as well as any additional amount above the primary coverage. (Some patients are completely responsible for payment - not all insurance companies will cover the cost).

The staff at Carter Eye Center will review your insurance coverage and your surgical alternatives prior to your crystalens® surgery. It may also be beneficial for you to contact your insurance carrier.
