Cataract Surgery

in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas

Cataract Surgery in Dallas, TexasCataracts are one of the most common vision problems experienced by older people.  It is estimated that nearly 20 million people over the age of 40 are currently suffering from cataracts of some sort.

Essentially, cataracts are protein deposits that form on the eye’s crystalline lens.  The natural lens of the eye is what focuses light, bringing different objects into focus.  When a cataract forms, it prevents light from entering the eye correctly, and impairs your ability to see.

While some cataracts never develop into a serious vision problem, other cataracts can grow to the point of seriously impairing your vision.  Cataracts often reach the point of preventing sufferers from participating in the activities they enjoy or performing day-to-day tasks.

Cataracts are corrected with cataract surgery, a procedure that removes the clouded lens and replaces it with an artificial Intraocular Lens (IOL).  With the new IOL in place, cataracts are eliminated and will no longer form, providing you with clear vision.

While surgery on the eye may make some people apprehensive about correcting their cataracts, cataract surgery is one of the most common surgeries performed in Dallas, Texas, and Dr. Carter uses only the latest cataract surgery techniques.

Dr. Carter will also provide you with all the most advanced IOL options.  IOLs in the past were monofocal, preventing people from seeing objects at different distances.  Instead, people were forced to select an IOL pre-focused for a certain distance vision, and then they had to use glasses to see objects at other distances.

The IOLs used at the Carter Eye Center are multifocal IOLs that allow you to retain your ability to focus on objects at various distances.  The most modern IOLs used by Dr. Carter include Crystalens, ReSTOR and ReZoom IOLs.
