Presbyopia Treatment

in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas

Everybody will become presbyopic at some point. It usually happens between ages 40 and 50. So what is presbyopia? It is simply the aging of the eye. As you age, the natural lens in your eye hardens and loses its ability to change shape or flex to accommodate. This results in near vision becoming blurry. It becomes hard to focus on a menu without squinting or wearing reading glasses. Working on a computer, reading the newspaper, sewing, reading a map, and many other activities that we take for granted are virtually impossible without reading glasses, bifocals.

Dr Carter and the staff were excellent and the great vision with Crystalens is fantastic.  Wish I had done it sooner.

Texas Presbyopia treatmentSometimes, we delay dealing with presbyopia by holding books or newspapers at arms length. Some people squint to try to read. Often, people with presbyopia who do not use reading glasses or bifocals get headaches.

It is estimated that 90 million Americans either have presbyopia or will develop Presbyopia in the next ten years.

Historically, presbyopia has been treated with reading glasses, bifocals or progressive lenses. Now Carter Eye Center can improve your vision, if you are suffering from presbyopia, with implantable, advanced Intraocular lenses:

What is the difference between ReZoom, crystalens, and ReSTOR IOLs?

While all three advanced IOL options provide you with the ability to see objects at various distances clearly.  The difference between the three is the way they accomplish this:

  • Crystalens IOLs are accommodating IOLs, which means the IOL actually bends in a way similar to that of your eye’s natural lens, focusing objects at both near and far distances
  • ReSTOR IOLs uses light entering the eye through the pupil to bring objects into focus at various ranges with a technology called apodized diffractive technology.
  • ReZoom IOLs have different zones on the IOL that are specifically designed to focus near and far distance objects, acting like bifocals within your eye

Other treatment technologies for presbyopia are under investigation. We are committed to making the most advanced treatment options available to our presbyopic patients.
