Dr. Carter helped change 100 lives in 100 minutes
in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas
DALLAS, TEXAS – In just 100 minutes on April 9, 2008 the lives of 100 low-income people in cities and towns across the country were changed forever as their failing eyesight went from murky to new-found clarity at all distances with Crystalens® cataract-lens implants…free of charge. This monumental event commemorated the 100,000th Crystalens implantation.
Dr. Harvey L. Carter III of the Carter Eye Center in Dallas was among a select group of ophthalmologists nationwide participating in this unique program – Changing 100 Lives in 100 Minutes – which not only dramatically improved patients’ eyesight, but also means many of them may never need eyeglasses again. During the April 9 event, Dr. Carter performed the Crystalens procedure on Gwen, a 49-year-old single mother, who raised her daughter alone since birth. Gwen had developed cataracts earlier in life than most people and rapid worsening of her cataracts greatly hindered her personal life and her career in telesales. Dr. Stuart Cumming, inventor of the Crystalens® and Dr. Carter's 1st Crystalens patient, Ernie Davenport, were also kind enough to join Dr. Carter for this special event.
Dr. Carter performed the Crystalens procedure on legendary NFL sportscaster, Pat Summerall, in 2005. Summerall also joined Bausch & Lomb and Dr. Carter in celebrating the 100 Lives Crystalens procedure.
